5 out of 5 stars Works as advertised.   December 18, 2009

I shopped around and I have many years of fitness experience and so I didn't make this choice lightly. Yes, it smells of chemicals but it's probably because it was packed before the paint fully cured. The smell goes away by the time you get it together and use it a couple of times. The grips are good but they're a bit soft and made of foam so I don't expect they'll last a long time. The area of the bar that comes into contact with the doorframe is a hard plastic with a textured surface that will leave an impression in the wood plus the natural up-down flex will rub a bit. The flat area on the back is fine and I don't see any noticeable marks on the wall. Yes, some of the more gimmicky exercises rank right up there with using it as a grill for a compact pickup. Still, there's no simpler way to have pull-up capability at home. Portable? Yes. Does it come apart easily for compact transport? Don't even think about it. The beauty is it goes on quick, you work out, then put it away. Truly easy, effective and versatile since there are more grip locations than the single bar type. I even use the bends where there is no foam and it's no problem. I bought some fitness bands to keep my reps high and I just leave them on it and use them as I desire. Can't test the weight limit though, I'm less than a buck 50. The top 20 guide is a leaflet and my "kit" came with no tools. Didn't use the included brackets. The stupidest thing they did with this kit is provide you a "printed on both sides" piece of paper of 20 exercise pictures but NONE of them use the bar. The only exercise pictures using the bar are on the box which I am sure most people will throw away/recycle. Come on guys, sheesh. Still a great product.

5 out of 5 stars Exactly what I expected   March 9, 2010

I was going to buy the Iron Gym Extreme Edition, but found that it would not fit my doors (glad I measured before I ordered). Luckily, I found this pull-up bar, as it was supposed to fit larger door frames and cost about the same. The reviews seemed good, so I gave it a shot.

After using it for a month, I could not be happier with it. It is a cinch to set up and take down. I don't use the brackets included, but it still seems very sturdy. I'm not at all worried about it falling off the door. I weighed 250lbs. when I first started using the bar so I can't speak to the 300lb. weight limit. However, as I said it is very sturdy and not once have I felt unsafe.

As other reviewers have said, it requires some assembly, and comes with no tools. I put it together with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers. Easy peasy, done in about 20 minutes.

The only other thing worth mentioning is that it does leave small black marks as some have said. They're hardly noticeable (I don't), but they are there.

All in all, great product.

5 out of 5 stars It actually works- Great addition to work out!   December 7, 2009

Let me start by saying that this product works exactly the way I was hoping for. A quick 18 pull ups in the morning, 20 in the afternoon, and 30 in the evening...all wearing whatever I want!
It fits securely into all the doorways in my home, and leaves no marks on the door and feels very sturdy.

I use the product for not only pull ups but also for great push ups and light dips. I think this is a genius product and for the price, you really can not beat it.

I am happy with this product and will recommend it to a number of my friends, as it was recommended to me from a friend.

Initially I had bought this product and did not have a favorable experience. After conversing with Maximum Fitness and both of us coming to the conclusion that there must have been an anomaly in the order, they stood behind the product and sent a replacement quickly. The replacement arrived quickly and I am pleased with the experience.

5 out of 5 stars NO PROBLEMS HERE! GREAT FOR P90X! Highly Recommended.   May 31, 2010

I purchased this bar to replace the P90X chin up bar I borrowed. I considered the good reviews and some of the negative ones. Here are some thoughts based on my experience.

- Solid, sturdy enough to handle my 250 lb weight!
- Exactly the same as P90X bar but half the cost.
- Works well with P90x workouts. Bar provides widest grip - best for pullups!
- Assembles pretty easily. Be patient. For those complaining about the screws, this bar uses lock nuts so don't think that the nuts do not fit the screws. It's supposed to be tight when screwing it in so that it doesn't come off easily. Use the HEX tool provided for installation.
- Screws will not scratch the wall if assembled properly (i.e., screws are in tightly). Make sure that the lock nut end is not touching the wall (wrong assembly side). All lock nuts should be "facing away" from the wall side.
- It doesn't matter which of the 10 screws you use, they are all long enough to go through the holes.
- During installation, assemble ALL screws and nuts lightly without tightening it at first. Once everything is lined up, then tighten the screws. This addresses complaints about bars not lining up or being crooked.
- Protect your doorframe by padding it with a towel when doing pull ups. This goes for any kind of doorway chin up bar.
- I contacted the Maximum Fitness Gear website for questions I had about the product prior to purchasing. They responded right away. If you have issues, contact them directly.
- Overall, this is a great chin up bar that you can use at home! Great for pushups and dips, too! I highly recommended this workout bar.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for P90X workouts!   March 28, 2010

I initially bought a P90X chin up bar but I gave it to my brother who started doing the P90X DVD workouts. So I bought the Maximum Fitness Gear chin up bar for myself because it looked similar to the P90X chin up bar I purchased. After receiving the item, I couldn't tell the difference between the P90X chin bar and the Maximum Fitness Gear brand. They're simply identical! I put the bars together with ease just like before. This chin up bar is EXCELLENT for doing all kinds of pull ups and chin ups (just like in the P90X DVD workout). I wouldn't recommend getting any other kind of chin up bar because the Maximum Fitness Gear chin up bar gives you wide angle grips that maximizes definition.

All in all, I'm very happy with the product and would highly recommend it to anyone using the P90X workouts or any workout for that matter. I'm half way through my P90X workouts and I can definitely see the difference since Day 1. I can't wait to get to Day 90!
