Amazon.com Review The best coffee is always the freshest coffee. That's why it makes no sense to brew by the pot: by the time you get around to drinking most of the joe, it's been sitting in a carafe (or worse, on top of a burner), going more bitter and stale with each minute. The Breville single-cup brewer takes a different tack. It makes coffee one cup at a time, so each cup tastes as fresh as the first one in the pot. Each cup is also 100% customized--by brew temperature, by grind, by varietal, even by cup size--so it's perfect for households or dinner parties in which everyone likes a different brew. Best of all, the brewing process is very, very difficult to mess up. The Breville's patented "showerhead" sprays a precisely calibrated amount of water through a "K-Cup," a technology made famous by Keurig's single-cup brewers, using temperature and pressure designed to extract the maximum amount of flavor from the grounds. More than 150 pre-packed K-Cups are available for beverages ranging from hot chocolate to organic dark-roast Columbian, produced by roasters from Tully's to Green Mountain Coffee. Like all of this company's handsomely designed kitchen equipment, the Breville single-cup coffee brewer is aesthetically gorgeous and feels solidly constructed. It's made from heavy-duty stainless steel with a die-cast safety locking arm, and comes with an internal water filter system to remove impurities that can impart off flavors and smells. A backlit reservoir holds 60 ounces of water and can brew up to 10 cups before it needs refilling; the programmable LCD screen has a refreshingly easy-to-use interface. The Breville single-cup coffee brewer measures 14-3/4 by 12-3/4 by 16-3/4 inches --Mary Park

I really wanted this to be the one...no such luck! January 8, 2009 I really wanted this machine. I did a lot of research on single coffee makers and felt this one was it! First of all it is a lot of money but somethings are worth it, this is not. It looks great if you like weak coffee. I followed the instructions for set up and brewing as outlined. We tried our first cup and were immediately disappointed. It was nothing more than colored water. We then proceeded to try several varieties of K-Cups. Yes, even the "bold" or "extra" types. Still no luck. I then moved on to using the smaller cup selection. Somewhat better but not what you want to wake up to. My last attempt was to use the My K-Cup and fresh grounds. Experimenting with several varieties and grinds I was not able to produce a decent cup of coffee. Cleaning the filter after each cup was a pain and to me it defeated the purpose of this machine. I also tried to make hot cocoa for my kids, again very weak. When I opened the K-Cup 2/3rds of the powder was remaining. So after 8 days of bad coffee back it went. On a final note it is virtually impossible to drain the machine. Why there is not option is beyond me. I can't imagine how you could pack it up to move.
The worst customer service I have ever experienced! January 8, 2009 We purchased the Breville Gourmet Single-Cup Coffee Brewer for our office so that we would be able to use the K-Cups and not have to deal with messy coffee grounds. After a couple of weeks, someone accidentally threw away the K-cup holder with the K-cup, (which is not difficult to do since it can stick). We placed a call to Breville to order a replacement K-Cup holder. There was a long wait time to talk to a customer service rep, so we were prompted to leave our phone number so that someone could call us back (we would supposedly keep our place in the queue.) Someone finally called back a week later. When we explained what we needed, we were told that the part is available and would cost $5.00. However, the customer service rep was not able to take the order and said someone else would have to call us back to get credit card information and take the order. When we didn't hear back after two weeks, we again called the customer support number, this time waiting 4 days for a return call only to be told again that someone from Breville would need to call us back to take the order. This last call was three weeks ago. We have emailed twice with no response. We are so frustrated with Breville's customer service and, for that reason, I will never purchase another Breville product again. We have not been able to use the machine for over a month. I don't understand why Breville makes it so difficult for their consumers to get a small $5.00 part for their machine, but since there are other single cup brewers out there, I suggest that anyone considering purchasing this type of machine choose a different brand. It's disappointing to pay $300 for a machine and not be able to use it (regardless of how nice it looks). Spend your money with a company that appreciates your business!
Breville 600XL January 7, 2009 This is a dream come true. I have always wanted a one-cup coffee maker and this one has to be one of the best. From manufacturing fit-and-finish to the ease of use to the convenience of a great cup of coffee, you can't get any better than this for under $2000. I am thoroughly impressed with the selection of coffees in the k-cup format, as well as teas and even hot chocolate. The Breville works consistently each time, whether you are brewing through the ground coffee attachment or one of the excellent k-cups available on Amazon.com or other sites. This is truly an A+++++ experience all around! Thanks Amazon and Breville!
Best. Coffee. Maker. Ever! January 4, 2009 Without a doubt, this is the best at home coffee maker I have ever used. Plus, it looks great on your counter. I was a fan of the senseo makers for a few years - until I used this. This was actually the first purchase I made for my new house in the spring of 2008. I bought it before I purchased any new furniture, kitchen accessories, etc. I couldn't wait to use it in my new house, and I have used it every day since. It's worth every penny.
Love It! January 3, 2009 I've been coveting this coffee machine for quite awhile and finally treated myself to it for Christmas. It makes a mighty fine cup of coffee simply and quickly. I've had a Senseo for years but wanted something stainless. Even though this was a bit pricey, so far, I'm glad I bought it. I just tried using the fill-it-yourself pod. Not bad. Guess I'll alternate k-cups and do-it-yourself (obviously, it's more environmentally friendly). The large number of sampler coffee and tea packs is a plus. I've even found a couple of drinkable decafs. The auto shut-off feature is another plus. Definitely a classy looking machine that I hope to enjoy for a long time.
