Recommended. Does what it claims. Made of hard plastic. Must take an average of 3 measurements to determine answer. Has a chart for various fat levels. Measures in inches and mm.
Recommended for the average person and weekend warrior, not for Athletes. Make sure the lever is pushed all the way to the right (high setting) then test and listen for click or you will think it doesn't work. Nice product.

Easy to use. The conversion chart is OK. It will take a some practice before to get it right. The only thing is I'm not sure if it right, no way to calibrate it with out a expense bodyfat test. But it will give you an comparison.

These calipers are an excellent, accurate, low cost, reliable way to keep tabs on your body fat percentage. I strongly recommend calipers such as the Accu-measure 3000 over bio electrical impedance methods of measuring body fat because the readings you get are far more consistent and reliable.
The results you will get from bio electrical impedance methods such as Omron hand held body fat analyzers or Tanita body fat scales will fluctuate enormously based on a number of factors such as room temperature, fluid intake, dehydration, activity levels etc etc etc, making their readings wildly inconsistent. I have had my body fat readings vary between 18 and 14 in one day on an Omron body fat analyzer. Obviously the machine is wrong.
With these Accu-measure calipers, measurement is so easy, just grasp the pinch of skin at the Suprailliac as described in the instructions and close the calipers around it until you hear and feel a slight click which lets you know you have applied the correct amount of pressure to measure the thickness of your skinfold. Do this 3 times, take an average and then using the supplied chart (I got mine laminated so it would keep forever) check your results.
Very easy, much cheaper and far superior to bio electrical impedance body fat measuring devices. Highly recommended. Five stars for sure.

Inexpensive and effective November 24, 2008
I wanted a product that could give me reliable and consistent measurements of my body fat to keep track of my progress. After messing around with it a little while I was able to get good repeatability of my measurements.
I did a search and have been using the "Jackson/Pollock 4
Caliper Method" which takes folds near your belly button, above your hip, your triceps, and thigh. Obviously you cannot do this method yourself as taking your triceps measurement would be impossible. You can also do this same measurement without the triceps. Look online for a calculator and good pictures of exactly how to take the measurement.
I'd give this only 4 stars because of the lack of good information about different methods, but it's so easy to just search online. The hardware itself does its job well. Once you get used to the click mechanism it is very easy to get repeatable measurements.
